Crisp baseboards, casings, crown and doors. Owner-led work, Sherwin-Williams finishes, and a 1-year workmanship warranty.
Trim and door painting means refinishing the baseboards, door casings, crown moulding, window trim and doors inside your home. It is the detail work that people stand close to and look at. Paint Texas preps, sands and coats each piece so the finish stays smooth and holds up to daily contact.
Most Katy homes have a lot of trim. Two-story entries, wide casings and tall baseboards are common here. That is a lot of straight lines, and every one of them shows.
A wall is one flat plane. Trim is edges, corners and profiles, and it collects grease, scuffs and old caulk.
We clean each piece first. Then we fill nail holes and dents, re-caulk the seams that have opened up, and sand the whole surface dull. Skipping any of that leaves a finish that peels at the first bump.
We also mask the walls and floors before a brush comes out. Trim paint splatters more than wall paint does.
Trim enamel raises the grain slightly as it dries. If you coat straight over it, you feel every ridge.
We sand lightly between coats and wipe the dust off. It adds time to the job. It is also the single biggest reason one trim job feels glass-smooth and another feels rough.
A door painted in place will almost always show brush marks along the edges. It also risks sticking to the jamb before the enamel cures.
Where the schedule allows, we take the door down, lay it flat and coat both faces. Flat means gravity helps the paint level instead of running.
Some doors have to stay hung. Exterior-facing doors and doors on a tight timeline are the usual reasons. We tell you which is which before we start.
Sheen is not just a look. It changes how the trim wears and how much it shows.
We use Sherwin-Williams on trim and doors. Their waterborne enamels level out well and cure hard, which is what trim needs.
Oil-based enamel is still the harder finish, but it yellows over time and takes far longer to recoat. For most Katy homes the waterborne enamel is the better trade.
If you have a color already on file with us, we can match it. If not, we bring samples out.
Paint does not fix rot. It hides it for a season and then fails.
Baseboards behind a slow leak need the wood replaced first. So do door bottoms that have swelled, and casings around a weeping window. We will say so rather than quote you a coat of paint over a problem.
The same goes for trim that has been painted many times over. Sometimes stripping back is the honest answer.
Paint Texas is owner-led. Patrick Montesanto is on the projects, not just on the estimate.
That matters most on trim work. Trim is where shortcuts are easiest to take, and hardest to see until the light hits it.
Our work carries a 1-year workmanship warranty.
We paint trim and doors across Katy, Fulshear, Richmond and the neighborhoods around them.
Trim work often gets bundled with a larger interior job. If you are repainting rooms anyway, doing the trim at the same time saves a second round of masking.
Yes. Trim-only jobs are common, especially when walls were painted recently. We mask the walls so the existing color is not touched.
No, but it usually looks better if you do. If we are only painting part of the house, we match the sheen and color to what is already there.
It depends on how many doors and how the coats cure. We plan the schedule so bedroom and bathroom doors go back on the same day where we can.
It will if the surface is cleaned, sanded and primed where needed. That prep is the job. Coating straight over glossy old enamel is what causes peeling.
We fill nail holes, dents and small gouges as part of the prep. Rotted or badly damaged wood needs replacing first, and we will tell you when that is the case.
Yes, and it is a popular choice. Darker doors against white casings is a common look in Katy homes right now.
Tell us how many rooms and doors you are thinking about. We will walk it, tell you what the trim actually needs, and put a number on it.
